I love using the 1917 Notebooks with my fountain pens! I have this army green one I take everywhere in this notebook cover with a few TWSBI fountain pens! Oh my! It’s like my friend.
I am actually a simple gel pen girl myself, because tbh my handwriting is too bad to deserve a fountain pen. There is this beautiful store in DC called Jenni Bick where I used to buy my Leuchtturms and they had the most amazing selection of Japanese fountain pens, but I always stopped myself from buying one because I knew they wouldn’t make my penmanship any better (that I could realize this about the pens while simultaneously not realizing that the notebooks would not make me write more was a feat of cognitive dissonance).
First, I don’t buy notebooks at CVS, since you can write a novel on the back of one CVS receipt. Just buy Jakeman’s cough drops and use the receipt for writing.
Now, is the rest of the list going in that fancy moleskine you just bought, or are we waiting for next week?
My favorite notebook I bought is covered front and back in faux fur. I will never come up with a writing idea good enough to actually justify using it.
I JUST DID THIS A FEW DAYS AGO. (Not moleskin, but this super rad artsy fabric covered job from the "Frank Lloyd Wright" collection at my local art museum.)
I also have a vast collection of journals with the starts of nothings scrawled onto the first dozen pages or so.
When real books become obsolete, writers will still be buying journals. Journals will never die.
Also, are those journals really made from the skins of moles? 😟
Hahaha I had to look it up the answer is no: Moleskin is a densely woven cotton fabric with a brushed surface that looks like suede or the fur of a mole (but is not made with animal skin!).
It wasn’t a moleskin but it was blue and had textured WAVES on it so I can’t really write in it because it’s more of a statement piece and what else am I going to show Oprah when she comes to my cabin to interview me after my successful career as a writer has taken off and sustained?? Riddle me that, Alex.

I found a brand called Exceed I think they're only sold at Walmart, meh, but it's great. The paper is as nice as my Leuchtterm1917, it has 2 ribbons and a band that keeps it closed. I use it for journaling and paste some flat paper momentos in each month so by the end of the year it turns into a scrapbook kinda thing.
Very similar energy to me telling my wife that she doesn't need another mug in order to stop going to Starbucks and start making her coffee at home oh would you look at that there's a new mug in the cupboard.

i have the worst handwriting and leemme tell you, its more fun to write it with a fountain pen!
Honestly, get an inexpensive TWSBI or Lamy Safari, some ink, and have some fun. My handwriting sucks too and it didn’t stop me ;)
