I had to look up "pandiculation" and now want to go back in time and change my vote, although I guess that would be based more of the picture of the cat stretching that came up when I googled it than the word itself. Good times.
Bob Dylan. No hesitation. No doubt. Easiest question I've had to answer. I love every one of his songs and he never disappoints. I almost never skip a song and if I do it's because I've listened to that song too many times that day already lol.
Uh hey. I think you’re already subscribed to my newsletter? (Which is crazy and super nice of you) But I just posted my first one. You told me to let you know so...letting you know :)
New reader here and I'm afraid my answer to this question will not make the greatest first impression, but here we go. Blues Traveler (with Barenaked Ladies coming a close second). Will it help if I explain that I'm a GenXer who is actually a fan of BT, knows every song and was once a bondafide groupie? Did that just make it worse? I'll quit while I'm (not) ahead and just say I'm glad to have found you on a Substack shoutout thread. Back to lurker mode. :)
Well then, grab a chair young whippersnapper and let me spin you a yarn!
The year was 1995. The place, Rodeo Bar in NYC. A 21 year old Kerri randomly bumps into John Popper and two other members of Blues Traveler at said bar. This is just as "Runaround" is blowing up. At this point, young Kerri has already been a fan for 5 years. But this one night turns her into a crazy megafan, groupie wannabe. She and her roommates hang with the band until the wee hours and when the night/morning comes to a close, they all promise to remain life long friends. Phone numbers were even exchanged! But, alas, as you might imagine, emerging rock stars with hit songs aren't notoriously honest and a lifelong friendship did not ensue. Calls were never returned. College Kerri was oh so sad, but soldiered on, becoming an even bigger fan as the years went by. (Rejection makes the heart grow fonder?)
Cut to the year 2002. Through a series of random events, a slightly older Kerri meets the new keyboardist for the band (Ben Wilson). They connect via email and she develops a crush, that is, sadly, not reciprocated. But! He is a super kind dude and they become friends and he gets her backstage passes to every show she wants to see. So she spends the summer of 2002 (blues) traveling up and down the east coast and to Denver and back having the time of her life (rejection once again making the heart grow fonder?). She even gets to ride on the tour bus!
But, all good thing must come to an end, and by early 2003, Kerri's crush fades, she meets the man she will eventually marry and no longer follows BT around the country. Before giving up her groupie lifestyle though, she does get to hang out in the green room at a couple of late night shows, watching the band perform, which is a super cool and a nice way to end this chapter of her life.
And now, because this is already way too long of a comment, we bring our tale to a close in the year 2022. A significantly older Kerri is still a BT fan, still sees the band whenever they come to her town and is still friends with Ben Wilson. Retired groupie. Forever fan.
The end.
Takes a bow.
Exits stage left and disappears off into lurkerdom. Maybe. :)
The story around those phone calls is cringy and sweet and sad and funny and something that would never happen today because everyone has a phone in their pocket. Aaaaah, the iPhone-less '90s were quite a time!

I think Charlie XCX would be a good one for this. Lots of bops, fun vibes, consistent sounds across albums.

I've never been this confident about anything in my life. What are your top 5 dylan diddies ?
Lol well this question wasn't as easy to answer, but I'm gonna have to go with:
'Dirge'
'It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)'
'The Man in Me'
'The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll'
'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right'
heck ya - dont think I've ever heard Dirge, listening now and diiggin it
Really glad you like it. Tons of underrated music under Dylan’s discography and Dirge is one of em.
I really enjoy reading your newsletter by the way. Hoping to start mine up really soon!

I've always responded more to female singers and female led bands as well. So my answer is Eurythmics/Annie Lennox.
