"Pre-winced" is exactly it. That constant bracing you describe, it doesn't even need something bad to happen, the body just stays in that position anyway. I think that's what parenting does that nobody warns you about, not the love part, the permanent flinch part. And then nothing happens, and you're still flinching, and somehow that's the whole day.
