Q: Is Elon Musk a piece of shit?
The other day I was hanging out with my man of 20 years and our 18 year old son, and the subject of Elon Musk came up. My guys both have strong opinions about Musk: he’s an idiot for buying Twitter and he takes credit for other people’s genius, Tesla blah, blah, blah, etc.
I imagine their opinions come from the media they partake and I wish they were just a little more open to the idea that what they see on a video or news might be true (and one certainly hopes that one can trust one’s trusted news sources) but it also might not be true or completely accurate, so maybe one ought to check their certainty at the door.
The reason this is even a thing for me is that I listened to a podcast where the official biographer of Elon gave a interview about the intimate details of Elon’s life and now I have some new perspective about him. (The irony is not lost of me that I am depending on a media source to form my opinion.)
I can now see Elon, first and foremost, as human, and a genius risk taker who has definitely pulled some bullshit moves in his life but at least he is willing to put himself out there and live large. I have shared my perspective with the guys, including the idea that it’s pretty easy to stand in the background of a powerful leader or courageous risk taker and say, “Oh, I’d never be so stupid as to do that.” Or, “I know how I’d do that so much better.” but this idea falls on deaf ears.
According to them, Elon is also clearly a piece of shit because he’s a bazillionaire, and I get it. That part can be a bit hard to swallow for me too. (I wonder what good might I do in the world with all that monayyy????)
Can you give me advice about how I might avoid getting triggered by what I imagine to be someone’s ill advised certainty?? I mean, ideally I wouldn’t be bothered. Which of course makes me think this is a deeper issue, lol. If you can see it, then PREACH, brother. I want to see the light.
